Air con won't come on any more
« on: 23 April 2010, 09:11:55 »

Just noticed coming home yesterday evening that the aircon (well climate control in auto mode) won't come on any more, and I have no real idea what will cause this.  The car is an '03 2.6 facelift and the aircon worked fine around January time, but to be honest I haven't used it except for in demist mode since.
I did check and when the controls are set to auto and LO the aircon compressor clutch does not pull in and so the compressor is not spinning.  I have checked that the wires on the sensor almost in front of the compressor are still attached and they are, but I don't know where to look next.

I will say that it was getting a bit 'tepid' towards the back end of last year and it may just have run out of gas and wants refilling.

Anyone know the ins and outs of the Omega aircon system and can point me at what I need to check / do next?

Many Thanks

Paul

Check fuse #14 but it`s more than likely low on gas as it sounds like the pressure switch has shut the compressor down due to lack of pressure in the system

most of the modern a/c gassing machines carry out a vacumn test before the gassing phase so any leaks will show straight away,if it passes that test its probably good to gass up

Lol....a vac test wont tell you everything...the better test would be a fry nitrogen fill.

You have to vac the aircon setup for 30mins plus because at such a low pressure water boils at ambient temperature and hence moisture is removed from the system.

Thanks, fuse 14 checks out Ok, so I guess I'm off for a leak check and re-gas.

Cheers

yep.. in mine test shows nothing but when we examined the system there were small many leaks visible in color on the climate radiator :-/

Just make sure they put oil and dye in the refill so that
1.  Compressor does not seize
2.  Any leaks can be seen with UV light
