« on: 24 April 2010, 08:52:05 »

I have just bought a 1998 2.5 cd saloon and every time i start the car there is a loud whiring/whining noise from under the bonnet that lasts about 10-15 seconds, does anyone know what this is? Thanks. :)

Sounds like the secondary air injection pump...

many do this when they get old, just unplug it, under passenger side of bumper.

You should drain/syphon some oil out of your car to the max level on the dipstick. It's not good for any engine to have too much oil inthere.
The 'tappets' are hydraulic, and it sometimes takes a few seconds for them to recieve full oil pressure in them to stop them from tapping. When was the last time the oil was changed? How frequent have oil changes been in the past?  ;)

It was a retorical question  ;)  ;)
So ....... after you change the oil, see how you go  :y  :y You want a semi-synthetic 10w40, Vauxhall's is a reasonable price  :y
