Hi guys, found this forum whilst trying to sort a problem. Rocker covers have been done twice by local garage - the SP wells are full of oil & its also dripping down the sides. I have stripped it down myself & cleaned everything, I have new seals but would like to know if Loctite 5910 (locally available) is a good sealant as I don't really want to do this again!!

if you want them to last and not leak 500 miles down road, use genuine gaskets only and Vx own black sealant:

    * Rocker gaskets: 90511451, one set per bank (£25+ Vat retail)
    * O-rings: 90411826, 8 per bank (13p+ VAT retail)
    * Gasket, Inlet bridge to head: 90501652, 2 off
    * Gasket, Inlet to Inlet bridge: 90501653, 3 off
    * Gasket, Inlet to Plenum O rings: 9118135, 6 off
    * Sealent, Black (not the Green stuff!): 90485251, 1 off

The general advise here is to bite the bullet & buy gaskets from Vauxhall, pattern are cheap to buy but harden with age very quickly and end up leaking again. Also, have you checked your car's breathers? http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152598350 You'll be doing the gaskets time & time again if they're blocked.

Guessing you are not UK based, but as Tunnie says, use genuine GM/Opel/Vauxhall gaskets and o rings, black sealent, and only tighten to 8Nm.

As well as this, clean the breathers out.

That should resolve your issue

Nope, not to me, looks like a play on words . And the text is written with a UK slang to it  :-/.


I think plain and simple, I cocked up  , but the advice I gave I still believe to be 100% valid

If you look above Watford on a map you'll see .... The North! Auldgeet is likely to be northern for Old Git!

Thanks for the advice chaps, all taken on board. "old Git" is nearly spot on spot on, except not doomed yet, just aging rapidly!!

Loctite 5910 appears to be be equivalent to the VX sealant.

Thanks Andy B , found the link ... great. Auldgeet - New technology don't go hand in hand, this is the first forum I've ever been on so please be patient, I've the typing speed of an arthritic tortoise so I'm just pleased my cars quicker!!
