A little more help needed
« on: 29 April 2010, 19:01:39 »

I have recently had trouble with the exhaust as 1 of the rubbers snapped and now think the flex joint is leaking but only when cold, it doesnt seem to sound as bad after about 5 mins so where would i get a new one from and what size do i need to get for my car and is it an easy job??? Also from a previous topic about my rocker cover and oil filling spark plug wells, the last couple of morning it seems to sound a little rouch and mis-firing, after about most of 30 seconds its is running as normal, would this be down to plugs or leads or both??? Help and advice appreciated

Cheers

Change the plugs to eliminate them first, unless they're fairly new.  Get as much oil out from around them as you can before removal.  Syringe/plastic pipette works well after the obligatory kitchen-towelling. While the old plugs are out, and before the new ones go in, shine a bright little torch down the holes and make sure the piston crowns look nice and dry.  Rough running for a short while from cold start followed by normal running can be an early symptom of HG problems, especially if you have a little unexplained coolant loss.

If all looks dry in there, and there is no coolant loss, you can safely ignore my doom-mongering.   :)

Edit: Oh, and have a good look at the old plugs after they come out.  If there are any black lines running vertically down the white 'porcelain', that would indicate tracking of the HT down the outside of the plugs, which would explain your symptoms.

i have looked at the oil and no other signs of failing hg, when i started it up this morning its was suttering and mis firing for about 10 seconds then fine.  I also noticed that if im at a stop and pull away quick or just tap the accelerator while in neutral the revs drop momentarily then revs or accelerates, so im going to change the plugs from then and maybe leads and see what happens, hoping for an easy fix
