EGR sticking

Hi,

Thanks to Mark DTM telling me to block my EGR I've found that was the cause of the car stalling. The questions are - can I clean it? should I replace it? is it ok to leave blocked long term? I've found the guide for cleaning the 2.2i, but is the 3.0 one the same?

Blank it off.

About £120 new, few quid 2nd hand (even got one here myself), but not worth the bother.

If you really want it working, try cleaning it with paint stripper first, before replacing.

But don't bother, leave it blanked off.



Guess what I would do ;)

Yep deffo better to block it off!! Might even give you a mile or 2 better fuel economy. I mean we all know that hot air is bad for engines which is why they fit intercooler and chargecoolers to turbo engines, so why have red hot exhaust gases being dragged into your engine through the EGR valve and giving you lower performance!!!
Had all on my cars blocked off for years.

Blocking it off tends to reduce MPG ;), but on petrols, its negligible.

EGR is only used when cruising normally, and has the effect of reducing cc of engine (although on petrols, primary purpose is to reduce NO)

Had the reverse effect on mine mate. Get 1 or 2 miles better to the gallon than when it was operating.
