Auto grearbox in Limp / Safe mode on start up
« on: 04 May 2010, 13:36:05 »

Omega 52 plate 2.2 ecotec petrol CDX
Please can anyone assist..
Sometimes on start up gearbox goes into "limp / safe mode. This only occurs on start up and then only happens now and again.  Turned off engine and restarted and all ok except car spanner light stayed on.
Took it to garage and it showed the following errors on his diagnostic box...

P0340 - Camshaft sensor no signal
P0340 - Camshaft sensor incorrect signal
P0335 - Crankshaft sensor - incorrect signal
P0335 - Crankshaft sensor no signal
P0700 MIL Request fromTransmission Control Module.

Garage cleared codes and  car was fine for about 2 weeks then it occured again, same fault (limp mode)  and codes. again, turning off engine fixes limp mode fault!!!
Garage want to replace all items with fault codes!!!!!
Can anyone please help

The cam sensor will likely be the reason for the TCM code, and why the box is in limp.

that is a very common fault on the 2.2's and can generate other faults which dont really exist.

I would be doing the CAM sensor and clearing codes, and only doing the CRANK if it recocur's.

others may suggest doing both sensors together, but dont change anything on the gearbox until youve dont the cam sensor

Had the same problem on mine for ages till the guys on the forum pointed me toward the cam sensor. Once done the problem dissapeared and has not returned. Do use a genuine GM senor though, pattern ones have a life span ranging from a nano second to several weeks I hear tell. Have a look at the link below for a hoto.

Ignore crank sensor for now, fix the cam sensor (with a genuine GM one from a dealer, not pattern)
