Aux/drive belt on 2.5 v6 all chewed up!!
« on: 30 April 2010, 20:14:59 »

Hi guy/gals

I'm hoping someone can help, I became the proud owner of my v6 cdx on the 29/04/10 and it's not been such a smooth transition as i'd of hoped. It's now the 30/04/10 and as I was driving her the alternator warning light came on, the engine overheated and the steering went solid. On inspection I found that the aux/drive belt had been chewed up and will need changing. :'(

My problem is I'm not sure of the route the belt takes as I hadn't been able to study it before it went and I could really do with a walkthrough guide to the replacement of the above item.

I have this no from your forum for the belt i'm not sure if it's correct: 93181718

and can anyone suggest a good place to get the parts from and an estimate of the cost?

thanks again for any help

Also forgot to mention:

I noticed in a post that one of the forum members might do jobs for cash if so how much would you/they charge for the above?

I am located in Oxfordshire near wallingford

Hi Will...
Just had the same deal on my 98 Estate...
The bearing on the tensioner seized and "ping"...

Being a cheapskate i just replaced the wheel (from the local scrappy after re greasing the bearing) and a new belt...

Tried to post the image but I'm stupid...
So its here :- http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/8494/serpbeltroute.jpg

Usually they shred as a result of tensioner bearing seizing - check thats ok first - top left hand side of engine when facing car.

Ah, that explains why it shredded (asked on the Oxford meeting thread).

If I get up early enough (and its dry) I may take the tensioner off Goldie and take it to Oxford, so you should be able to get on the road again this weekend

lol just replied to you on the other thread

If you could that would be amazing I was meant to be visiting my mum on sunday in essex also would it be possible to complete in a day or is it quite tricky?

i've had a look and there is quite a bit of access just need to remove some pipes in the way held on by jubilee clamps

and i'd give you some money for the tensioner/time/effort

this is my first day being a member of this forum and everyone has been really helpful so far  ;D

Its a 10 minute job mate providing no other damage.  One bolt and tensioner off, bolt replacement back on.  Remove one awkward bolt on I think SAI pipe to thread belt through - route belt and tension, replace awkward bolt and jobs a goodun  ;)
