Am requesting information from BBA-Reman re my faulty ECU. They are requesting the part number to assess their options. Is there a standard Vx part number for this item? Or is there a unique number for each individual unit? If the latter is the case, is there any way of getting the number without physically removing it?

Why did they need that?

The post 98 ECU's are of the same design (a few variants) and suffer the same fault.

As an additional, use these to do the fix:

You will need to ask them a question but, they were doing the Omega repair for 100notes.

Not sure Mark, but they wanted the item no. They said it was probably a bosch starting with 0265 but maybe a Hayes? And that if they fixed my unit it would not need coded. I know that! I just gave the vehicle details hoping for a rough guide price for repair. Do you remember what the ebay crowd needed, details wise?

Nothing......I have used them many ies for ABS ecu's, engine ecu's the lot.

Will there be a need though for tech 2 or can they match the unit to the car without any further problems?

       Been trying to do this on my phone, but every time i click on 'contact member' the phone just goes back to the home screen. Pesky thing! I'll wait until I get home. Rang another crowd and was quoted £250 plus vat to repair mine! Not looking too good

Managed to get the numbers from the top of the pump so would hope that will allow a 'match' to be made, or at least a proper quote to repair (not £250). Am now being advised by a seller that I need the pump and the ecu - surely not?

Nope. Just the ECU from the front of the valve block. The rest can stay in-situ.

The part number from the valve block will probably not help either, although I'm not sure why they are insistent on it anyway.

I would just take the ECU off. It needs to come off anyway.
