Got a kit of discs/pads from Vx last week - 95 quid all in.
I asked for 'trade rate' and they gave in, no bother.

Euro Car Parts.

go for the ATE brand, not the cheapies.

any pads are as good as any others. (harder pads excepted, but you shouldn't be fitting these to a road car anyway)

Are the Mintex discs/pads any good?

Mintex do a couple of things....

Standard discs. Good, but not up to the OE quality of ATE
Standard pads. As good as any other

in general....

"Improved" discs. Not worth any extra money - they'll have either grooves or cross-drilling holes, both of which only have the purpose of expelling gas and dust on endurance-racing cars. Use of these on a road-car is a fashion statement - nothing else.

"Improved" pads, trade greater hot performance for worse cold performance. Work better when used frequently (every 30 seconds). Don't work so good when used infrequently (normal driving)

Genuine - £80.15 + VAT (and an extra 10% off currently).

I had so much trouble with pattern discs/pads on my MV6 that I only use genuine brake parts now, and have no real further problems apart from glazing the pads and occasionally getting spongy pedal if in a desperate hurry.

ATE are now of much better quality than OE.

For a period of time, you could get OE - OE discs which were the pukka ones fitted to new cars ( and these were ATE ) and you could alse got OE - trade club discs which were not of the same quality. Only the Trade-club ones are serviced now.

Who gave you that misinformation?

They were still listing both when I bought my OE rear discs pads and shoes a few weeks ago. :y

I know Chrisgixer fitted the OE spec pads after being disappointed with the TC pads. They were 70 quid odd for the front axle set of pads alone IIRC. :o

Better, apparently, but at a price.

Just looked on the Euro Car Parts website, they only list Pagid (out of stock) or Eicher discs for my car. Is ATE the same as Eicher?

Over the years I have replaced the disks (different brands) on most cars with parts from motor factors, genuine have allways been the best for a reason.

On my GLS I fitted Apec Disks and pads a couple of years and must admit to find them to be as good as the genuine ones.  priced some up today and got a right shock, the prices have shot up for them.

Paid £43 for the disks and £17 for the pads last time.

pads            £30.57
disks        £71.53
