Is the noise speed related?

manual box,

there is no noise it's just very clunky going into every gear,

it's terrible when coming down through the box when slowing down,

it isnt the clutch as it pulls away just fine,

Have you tried topping the gearbox oil up? It may be low making the transfer shafts a bit sticky.

I don't remember there being any adjustment on the gear selector, I suppose if one of the bolts fell out of the gear lever extension it might upset gear selection :-/

Your description does sound like a classic case of 'clutch drag' where the clutch doesn't totally release and keeps spinning the input shaft on the gearbox while you are trying to engage a different gear.

Things to check are
(without taking gearbox out)
- low brake/clutch fluid level in reservoir
- air in hydraulic clutch release circuit
- faulty master clutch cylinder
- worn clutch pedal pivot
(need to take gearbox out)
- faulty slave cylinder
- broken fingers on clutch diaphragm spring
- rusty splines on gearbox input shaft
- broken clutch plate
- broken DMF

There is adjustment on the selector, not a lot though :y

Yes how do you adjust it ? sorry to nip into this thread but mine has been clunky forever. new gearbox .new clutch. new flywheel.. althought after i'd bled the clutch about 10 times there was a big improvment. much smoother now but still has bad days.

It's a single 13mm bolt up behind the prop, if you can hang on I'll show you at the next P&L meet ;) :y
