bl**dy air con
« on: 23 May 2010, 21:44:41 »

Christmas before last I had a local air con place come & re-gas my car's air con. A few weeks/months (I've slept since & I can't remember  ::))later he came again & re-re-gassed it with more dye to find the leak. He decided it was the compressor, fitted a pattern one, & a new fill valve (the one at front by the condensor) & fingers were crossed. Last summer in France it was obvious it wasn't working as it should, it could justr about keep up here in Blighty, but France's high 20s/low 30s proved too much. So about July/Aug last year it was re-re-regassed with more dye & on his returned decided it was leaking from one of the pressure switches right at the front of the car. A new switch was bought from vauxhall & he fitted it.
Fast forward to the current nice weather .........  :'( & I'm HOT! No cooling effect from the system, the ally bit that should be wet with condensation isn't & I'm a little narked & £400 lighter in my wallet.  >:(

end of rant  ;) ;)

I could have done that before I spent money on trying! Local dealer is charging £45 a re-gas at the moment, but I'll wait to see what the original a/c 'specialist' has to say first.  :y  :y

im also far away from you else i could help,  regularly get people covering 120 + miles to get me to check it and their cars over.
sounds like the specialist should use his leak detection wand (beeps) which sniffs the air around the joints etc and alerts you to the problems.  sometimes tho, all can look good, but could be a seal which only leaks when the cars going along with the vibration, hense takes time to drop.
still a pain in your wallets arse tho :(

I wasn't really calling the a/c specialist, they used to be the port of call for my local dealer till they got their own stuff. As with all intermitant problems or hard to find leaks it can be hard work to find the fault. I've emailed them this evening & will give them a day or so to repsond before I phone them. We're talking 160 000 mile 11 yrs old car so thing do wear out, I just want to have a cold car for France this year  ::)  :y  :y.
It's a pity I wasn't sailing from Pompey, I could have driven up the road to Dorset.  :y  :y  :y

So do I,  ;) but the car is used high day & holidays, & it's older than yours.  :y

and I'd be very surprised if there was 950 grammes of gas in there  ::)

4 pots do tend to suffer with condenser problems though, cause i changed mine in 2005 and it was in a bit of state. 4 pots only have single cooling fan so half the condenser is exposed, unlike V6 where its hidden

Going to see if I can get my system fixed Ok at 2pm tomorrow, Just hate haveing to  allow anyone to work on miggy. Air con is about the only thing I can't do myself. I know I'm such a sad person it was bad enough haveing her MOT'd today, but thats just a series of tests, although this Thursday gone I did surprise myself and went down to WIM for a steering geometry check and 2 new tyres. Must say as the forum experts say they really do know what it's all about. Well worth the journey from Leeds. :y :y :y
