oh god, why now! NO COLD AIR!!
« on: 23 May 2010, 12:57:48 »

Hey guys
as you probably know from old posts, my AirCon has always worked but ive never experienced ICE COLDNESS from it, only when i bought the thing 7 years ago was it ice cold, its been regassed every year without fail, just got in the car and no cold air whatsoever, maybe thats what that noise was when i had climate control on last week that i heard? when you turn climate off, the irritating whiney noise stops, wonder if its my condensor that has been the problem with no ice coldness for all these years? should the Omega be ice cold anyway? my grandfathers Honda Accord is like the antarctica, mines never been like that,

cheers

My old Omega used to get freezing, so yes it should get ice cold.

Hmm.. I'm with you on this, my car is distinctly warm now the weather is hot, and it was regassed and cleaned last year  :( What with the juddery brakes and the imminent cam belt change it could be a bit of an expensive time.... my sympathies to you also!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! RUB IT IN !!!   >:(
i can honestly say that even when i bought my car all these years ago, it was cold but NEVER ice cold, would this because it may have had a faulty compressor or condensor, or whatever its called?
if so, then i dont mind getting one if im to be kept cool during this short heatwave  :y

My aircon has never been icy either - the man at the garage says it's supposed to be at about 6-7oC.

My Volvo used to produce absolutely freezing air - had to direct it away from my right hand on the wheel too avoid frostbite.  The Mondeo was the same, so I found the Omega very civilised.

But on the Elite, or anything with climate control, surely it's the intention that you keep the climate control, and thus the refrigeration on the whole time?  There's an ECO button to turn it off, but it cuts the engine idle speed by about 200rpm, so the car feels like it's going to stall everytime you wait at the lights, so mine stays on constantly.  If I was really, really interested in saving a bit of fuel, at the expense of my comfort, I wouldn't be driving a 3.0 top-of-the-range executive car anyway.

I've spoken to a couple of people recently who just never use the aircon in their (inferior) cars because they believe it costs too much in petrol.  One of them is my daughter - I must have brought her up wrongly. :(

have just had my compressor replaced and the necessary re-gas due to age / leaks and I am disapointed at the warmness of the 'lo' setting - my old saab was SO much better.

With the mig it still takes ages to settle down to much below 19/20, just has the fan blowing cool air at full pelt for 20 mins!

It shouldn't be, when mine is working (if it ever does again for more than a few months at a time  >:() it's too cold to leave your hand infront of the vents.  ;)

I had mine regassed just before our holiday and when driving home last Saturday in the blazing sun the c/c was just right - set at 20'C. Not frostbite cold but just right.

Wayne when you've had your air-con regassed was this done by an air-con technician and did they pressure test it first? To need regassing every year sounds like you might have a leak. Also check your coolant level as too low coolant stops the compresser cutting in.

How?  :-? Not enough refrigerant stops it, but not coolant.

Wayne - did you ever fix that vac problem with your climate control? Remember you had to disable the HBV to get any HEAT from it?
