Aircon Problem

Had system regassed and leak check, within days stopped blowing cold. Had gas checked, still full. Emptied gas and recharged. Worked for a few days then reverted to blowing lukewarm. Am I looking at a new compressor or are there other things I can check. TIA

whoever did it should have added dye so should be able to find the leak, or point you in the right direction

Don`t think any dye was added :( What I can`t understand is after it stopped blowing cold, when I took it back they checked the gas level and the system was full right up, they couldn`t get any more in so they discharged it, re-filled to max, same again, worked for a couple of days then lukewarm again. Could the clutch on the compressor be working intermittently :-/

If the firm you have been using were true a/c specialists I would have thought they could have told you what was wrong ::) ::) I also believe it is a legal requirement for dye to be used to detect any leaks, as any escape into the atmosphere is illegal.

Sounds to me as they do not understand a/c systems, so I would advise you to consult with a good local or mobile specialist ;) ;)

the legal bit is to not fill a system with a known leak.

IIRC When I had mine done the bloke doing it drained and weighed the gas to determine how much the system had lost. Pressure tested it and then refilled with 950 grams of refrigerant (May be a bit out with the 950 but it's an exact amount). He said that over filling the system can do as much harm as not having any gas in it. Not sure if there is a safety cutout for if the system is over pressurized the same as there is for under pressurized if the gas gets to low.

AFAIK there should be a high pressure switch as well a low pressure one.
