valve collet refitting on 2.5
« on: 07 June 2010, 18:57:24 »

Head overhaul 2.5 ,refitting valve collets, there has to be a trick to this, unfortunatly i dont no it, having fingers like pigs tits is no advantage atall. can one of you much respected omega magicians pass on a few pointers to help me out so i can make some progress. also as a pointer for anyone else attempting head refurb, i made the mistake of fitting the new valve stem oil seals before dropping the bottom spring seat over the valve stem, it does'nt fit over the seal, so seals of and start again and seals do not like being removed i found, so replacements needed if you make the same mistake

Easy enough.....some grease on the inside of the collet to make it stick to the valve top, use a small screwdriver and magnetise it on a speaker coil or other strong magnet....place the collet on the end of this.

Cheers for that Mark, i just found a tool on ebay for this. but probably like yourself, prefer the challange of improvising, i did actualy consider the magnetic screwdriver and grease method but i guess i just needed conformation (eyesite not what it used to be)

regards Terry
