How much auto transmission fluid for a 3.2v6?
« on: 06 June 2010, 22:42:58 »

I'd like to change the ATF on my nine year old 100,000 mile 3.2v6.  I saw on one thread that it takes 1.3 litres, but the Opie Oils website implies I need 4.5 litres.  Please can anyone clarify the quantity of trasmission fliud I need. TIA.

Just purchased ATF and engine oil from Opie Oils.  Members get a further 15% discount at the moment so thats handy.

BTW in the maintenance guide it mentions about fitting a new washer.  Would I get this from a VX dealer?

Yes, you can get the washer from a dealer.Get a filter while your there. Not much point changing the ATF and leaving the old filter in there. ;)

two gaskits for front and rear sumps, or use an instant gaskit of the correct type. The filter (and magnet in the sump) can be cleaned, filter from dealers is 70 odd quid. And i distinctly remember it taking more than 5litres................. surely?

there is a guide in naintenance re the fill procedure, fill to level hole, start engine, re fill,  select all gears and check again, test drive check again, or something like.

far better done on a ramp imo.

BTW, you will need 6-7l of DIII to replace the ATF in the autobox - it holds about 9l, but its not (easily) possible to get it all out.

Worth buying 2 large cans of Fuch 4000 from Opie.

Think I read somewhere that you could get away without buying the filter, it can be cleaned and reused.

Is this correct?

Mick ;)

How do you clean the filter? Pls excuse my ignorance.

I'm not planning to take sump off, just to replace ATF as I guess its never been done.  Would like to get the gearbox software updated too and planning to ask Hotel21 nicely to do this for me once oil change done.
