I have a water leak somewhere at the rear of the engine compartment of my 2.5 V6 CD auto.
I can't see where it's coming from
Are there a common problem areas that might give me a good starting point for my checks ?
Or should I just try a lump of Barseal ?

Yes, it is most likely to be the HBV (heater bypass valve) that sits slightly on the drivers side of the rear of the engine

As well as removng the windscreen scuttle, I also remove the wiper assembly - it's only held in with 3 bolts (IIRC) and makes a world of difference for access.  There's a wee metal bracket at the bottom of the windcreen that you need to remove also.

Never be tempted to use any kind of leak sealer! they cause many more problems than they solve, sometimes terminally so!!

Thanks folks .... It looks an easy fix.
The "How To" is brilliant I even managed to understand it first time around.
I think the wipers will be vacating the engine bay for a while (big hands) or maybe just fat ones.
I'll have to find out if my trade account is still active at Mills.
As they say every little helps.
Just for the record I also have a small tool kit and a very large tea mug (Should do the job alright).
At least I know what I'm doing this week end. You just watch the weather turn to the worst now.

Careful of the paint on your driver's wing, the mechanism comes very close.

Good point, I'd forgotten to metion that.  You will see where it may make contact as soon as you try to get it out.  If you want to be safe, put some masking tape on the wing with a top layer of duct tape - or whatever you think yourself to protect the paintwork.

Wish I could get mine to help out once in a while...   Oh, wait a minute... it's a typo.  Phew, thought I was missing a trick there!
