undo the nuts on the injectors then turn engine over and see if fuel is getting through.

Had this with the wife's Elite. She had pulled the key trying to take it out and the litttle chip had cum out onto the carpet. Also used to get this when I did the fuel filter as air had got in the fuel system. Is the the car front facing up hill as the fuel runs back to the tank. Also had it on the old CD, a vacume pipe had come off under the air filter box. >:(

must have air in it or it would be running unless the crank speed is too low.

are they fitted with glow plugs?

is the engine trying to start,if so its air in the system.
if its not trying to fire up it must be the fuel pump itself is not delivering the correct preasure to crack the injectors.
ive not worked on the 2.2 but are the injectors one piece or can they be taken to bits and cleaned.
I would get it tech2 do see if theres any other problem before spending money on guess work it might be a faulty sensor somewhere

I'd be inclined to get a tow start (assuing it is manual).

My 2.5TD refused to start when the crank sensor appear to have died, it would tow start straight out though (although I would have expected no fuel at the injectors)....

I don't know if it is the same on the 2.2 or not, but try disconnecting the crank sensor and see if it starts, maybe someone can confirm (again on the 2.5td it runs, with high idle without)...

Yep, but if you`re getting fuel I doubt if it`s the C/S

Hi Have you looked at leak off pipes from injectors? They caused this exact problem on my 2.2dti.  On my car, massive time cranking resulted in it eventually  coughing and then firing normally, I think they are not too expensive to replace.

Re vacum pipes have you checked the one on  the vacuum pump? You can't really see it but can feel it easy enough to pull it off and examine it. It  can be found between the far end of the rocker box and the bulkhead. Hope this helps.
