The yellow light directly above the handbrake light on the dashboard has recently started to remain on for 3 or 4 seconds longer than usual after the car is started.(It is shown on p 150 of the user manual as control indicator for exhaust)
Can I ignore this?

If any light comes on mate it comes on for a reason. I would not ignore it.. anyone up there near you with a Tech2? Hotel21 is in the Highlands

Paperclip, rather than pedal trick as yours isn't a drive by wire engine.

:73   Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage Low .

woo, a rare maf code on a 2.5

as i understand it, maf reporting lower than feasable air volume/intake at a given rpm. Possible causes, MAF has been unplugged with ignition on. Dirty contaminated maf element (its buggered) or, faulty wiring to maf connector or plug.

Basickly if its not been unplugged recently and the wiring is ok, swap the maf for a known good one, clear the codes and see if the problem clears.

Suggest doing this sooner rather than later before maf fails properly.

ps, if it has an oiled panel or cone filter, remove and throw it directly in the bin then fit an original paper filter.

No work has been done so i guess its unlikely to have been unplugged.
The only way to replace it for a known  good one will be to send it to garage and get it replaced.Any idea how much it might be for this part?

Easy enough to replace yourself, prices vary wildly but would suggest fitting an orginla bosch or siemens part and not some cheap ebay snide About 70 english off top of me head :-?

70 quid doesn't sound too bad.I just had a good read at the FAQ on MAF sensor.I suppose that to replace it and air filter is my first course of action, so ill look into that this afternoon.

The other way is to swap with a member here to prove the fault will be rectified first.......if possible.

 given non drive by wire maf's rarely fail I'd consider one from a breaker on here also.
