I'm new to the forum so a quick hello to everyone.  8-)

Now onto my problem.

I've been looking to buy an Omega with set parameters - 3.0 (X30XE), Manual, MV6 or Elite, dark colour ( definitely not white, silver, grey, gold etc) - and am finding the manual option is really restricting choice. I have a couple lined up to see but obviously if the auto-to-manual conversion is relatively straightforward there would be plenty more fish in the sea so to speak.

How easy is it to convert an automatic to manual - is it a purely 'mechanical' job or are there looms/ electrics involved?  Do they use the same chassis, subframe, floorpan, exhaust/ manifs and so on.

I have TIS & EPC at home but I'm travelling at the moment and ideally want to pickup a car before getting back. Furthermore any parts needed are also best picked up on my current travels as they are highly unlikely to be available in home pastures so if someone can create the necessary shopping list for me it would be most helpful. For example does the R28 us the same prop as the auto etc.

did this conversion a few years ago -bought an ex-police manual car with blown engine was handy having a complete car for all the silly little bits that add up to a fortune and are hard to obtain - other than that follow the link

I'm on my 9th conversion now.

at the very least, you'll need to do the following......

change the transmission, flywheel, clutch, propshaft and differential.

then you need to add a clutch pedal including bracket, spigot bearing in crankshaft rear, master cylinder and pipework and the gear lever and surround of course.

to do the job properly, you then need to remove the redundant automatic transmission wiring and the control unit. I prefer to leave no trace that the car was ever automatic

you also need to add a reversing light loom and earth the connection from the engine ECU that tells the car it's manual.

Finally, some tech1 action will remove the "automatic transmission" warning from the display, unless like me you like the irony.

Not necessarily, depends on your existing ratio`s
