aux belt

can anyone tell me if i can easily see if my aux belt has gone (power steering failure) just wondering if i can check myself (thanks for all your help so far, i am slowly becoming a mechanic lol) :o

Open the bonnet and there should be a belt running round a number of rollers at the front of the engine.

yeah there seems to be one of them lol (didnt know which belt it was) have checked fuses under bonnet and fuses 14 and 17 under steering wheel but still cannot turn the bloody steering wheel :(

There's just one 8 foot long belt that goeas around all the pulleys.  :y
What's the power steering fluid level like? :-/

no idea dont know where to look for it ,  it doesnt tell me in my user manual and cant find it on here :-[

I was hoping it was just a fuse, perhaps you should publish what area you live in, there may be someone near who can take a look.

Towards the passenger side of the engine bay, have a look at this .... http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1236366278 the filler cap is shown on an angle cos it's not screwed in place.  :y

Assuming the rest of the steering is OK ie the steering box & associated linkages are OK, it could be a fubar'd pump  :-/  :'(

there is something next to my power steering fluid tank that can be pushed down it doesnt seem to be connected to anything, what is this?

If the Aux belt and Power Steering fluid levels are fine, then seems like the PAS (Power Assisted Steering) pump may have given up.

Do you have the TC/ABS lights on the dashboard at all?  If so, you may receive limited power steering.

I sympathise!  I know what it feels like to drive a V6 without Power Steering after the high pressure hose ruptured on me a few weeks ago.  You need arms like Schwarzenegger!

behind & left a bit? black 'bellows' around it?

bonnet switch for the alarm  ::)

Is it closer to the engine?  Looks like a canister of sorts?  If so, it's the ICV (Idle Control Valve)

lol i am 8 months pregnant and definately dont have arms like arnie but may do if i have to keep carrying my three year old everywhere until my car is fixed!
