Still hesitating and gutless
« on: 01 July 2010, 00:16:06 »

Hi all,

I got my new parts today (thanks AutoVaux for shipping to Norway!). Had some time at the workshop and replaced DIS-pack, plug leads and spark plugs. My old spark plugs still looked brand new, but I changed them anyway.

It got rid of my misfire - at last, but the poor miggy is still gutless like a 2-litre. With reference to my previous thread, http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1274376988, I am pretty sure all vacuum hoses are connected as they should. At least the multiram works as it should. It struggles to reach about 4000 rpm and then "shoots off" (in comparison).

Does anyone have a clue about where to look next? It could be obvious, but I've become blind in the process..

Checklist (ruling out things):
- No fault codes (but the silly 136 remains when clipping. Zilch from "My Naff Code Reader").
- Fuel pressure up to standard
- HT-part is brand new
- Vacuum seems ok
- No obvious intake leaks

Not sure, are you sure all the vacuum pipes are all in the correct place?, any hissing noise on tickover?, compression test?, try spraying some carb cleaner over the vacuum pipes at high revs and listen for increased engine revs.

I have tried with carb cleaner to search for vacuum leaks, but nothing that I can find. The only hissing sound I can hear is what I consider normal from the intake. The pipes should be correctly hooked up, at least all components are functioning (both multiram flaps and FPR). All gaskets on the intake were changed when swapping engine (X25XE to Y26SE using X25XE electronics + plenum). EGR blocked off with dual gaskets and a 2mm sheet of steel at plenum side)
As for the spark plugs - they are brand new (as of today), genuine GM. DIS and plug leads original Bosch.

Compression test was done right before I got the engine - perfect condition. The old spark plugs I removed were all evenly worn (well, not worn at all).. Timing is also spot on.

I'm thinking about recording a video showing its performance in daily driving..

Someone suggested blocked cats, but I find that hard to believe as it's coming to life over 4000 rpm. A blocked cat would make it harder to rev it under load (experience from my Cavalier/Vectra that ate two cats in a year)..

Hmm, I have never heard of such a thing, but it was ok with the previous engine in it (same ECU, loom etc.)

As far as I know, Tech2 functionality is very limited on those ECU's (M2.8.1), but there's really no way of getting Tech2 plugged into my car here (hey, this is Norway  ::) ). I have "My Naff Code Reader" myself, but there's no such setting there..

it has it on "My Naff Code Reader", do engine read and its on the settings on that. move one of the boxes down and it on the list will say if its active or not.

That sounds like one of the solenoids for the multiram, but I will check it :)

I'm just wondering; could the long Y26SE plenum be very different (performance-wise) than the X25XE plenum?

Maybe I should try to make use of the longer plenum.. Have to find a way to fit the IACV though.. The butterflies can be swapped.

Edit: Also, if anyone have the opportunity to check this on their X25XE/X30XE: Vacuum hose from the IACV to FPR - do you have any vacuum at all on idle? This thing rips me apart now  :-[
