Limp Mode
« on: 08 July 2010, 16:30:56 »

Hi guys,

your help and advice needed.

I have a 02 omega cdx estate 2.2 auto. 2 days ago the orange light light with the engine picture came on and the car went into limp mode.

I took it to a vauxhall approved garage who have tech 2 diagnostic equipment. They came back with the following codes and told me it needs specialist auto gearbox investigation. (sounds expensive) :-[

The error codes were as follows

1 Trans  p1625 Present, internal power control final stage low input.
2 Engine p1700 present, it's either 5u5 or sus request via can.
3 Engine p0700 present, mil request from transmission control (tl) modul.

can anyone explain what these mean. They all sound exspensive. As I have already spent money on this car I have to decided my next course of action, repair or ebay  So if anyone has had the same or similar problems I'd be grateful to hear from you.

Cheers guys :'(

where there any other codes than just gearbox ones? Failing cam sensor (if its petrol engine?) often causes random other codes.

Car is in limp mode? Won't rev above 4k rpm?

Drop a PM to 'TheBoy' he has geniune tech2, but unlike most garages knows how to use it  :y (he's also just up road in Brackley)

Omega gearbox, especially on 2.2 is bulletproof!

Interesting .. I can't find a P1625 or a P1700 listed for a Vx anywhere ... BMW/Subaru yup .. but not VX

P0700 is Transmission Control System Malfunction

Which would explain the limp mode....  but not what is up with it.

I'd agree with Tunnie .. contact TB and get someone who knows what they are doing to check it.

EDIT now found a ref to P1700 - Transmission Control System Malfunction - MIL request, Malfunction - which is almost identical to P0700 ..  :(

nothing on the P1625 at all .. :(

P1625 - TCM System Reset
P1700 - Transmission Control Module (TCM) Requested MIL Illumination
And to confuse the issue the "orange light with the engine" is emissions control :)

This , and very similar problems appear on this forum regularly but there seems to be no single magic solution, so anything you find out as you try to resolve your problem will be of great interest to others.  Can you still drive your car if you use  gears 1 2 3  rather than D ? I regularly have to do this until the limp mode issue sorts itself out until next time . Good luck ..keep us updated

After seeing the car, my gut feeling is its hydromechanical rather than electronic.

There is a slightly worrying rotational noise from the box, wouldn't mind betting the thrust washer went some time ago, and now the oil pump is not in great shape.  My first thoughts were ATF level, but that was probably about right (certainly is now).  Some signs of the filler plug being disturbed recently.

Car is a nice 2002 CDX estate in my favourite silver, so if it was mine, I'd pick up a cheap ar25 and slap it on....

Hi Guys,

i just wanted to add what a top bloke "The Boy" is. I popped over to Brackley and within minuets he was checking the car over. And under as well !!!.

Unfortunately we didn't get it fixed, not for the want of trying though, but at least he managed to give a good diagnoses.

Now I have to decide repair or Ebay for spares. I'm reluctant to ebayer her as she's in great condition, well apart from this ongoing fault. But in these hard times I'm not sure I want to spend much more on her.

Once again thanks The Boy, much appreaciated.

Regards Martin

Although you don't have post count, in these circumstances i would offer it here first if you intend to sell, as there are a number of people here which maybe interested.

If the admins approve, make a good sale advert in test zone with some photos and if they are feeling nice will move it for you  :y

That said, i am sure we could help out fitting a new box, drop a PM to Elite  Pete or Darth Loo Knee, as they maybe able to quote for a fix, and its going to be done right and a lot more reasonable price than a garage.

As your local (i'm in Brackley too) sure we can do a quick box change here  :y

once again thanks for all the help. Perhaps the garages should take a leave out of this forums books !!!! 8-)
