Refitting rear spoiler
« on: 09 July 2010, 23:06:31 »

Hello, the rear spoiler on my W 3.0 Elite is coming away on the nearside. Nothing to serious yet and just went through it's test ok. I've looked at refitting it but don't want to take it off completely. Does anyone think I could take off the trim in the boot, put a screw through and put some resin between the spoiler and boot then brace it till it sets? Do you think that will work ok? Thanks

what age is your car, is it facelift or mini-facelift?

Facelift its just bonded on, pre-facelift its bonded and bolted

It's a 2000 (W), I don't know if it's facelift or mini facelift, how can I tell?

Good! Haha! Think I'll just have a bash at what I said with the resin. I prized it up a bit and couldn't see any bolts or boltholes anyway. Thanks

Personally I wouldn't use resin, I would use a "proper" body adhesive ... somethinglike Sikaflex EBT ... from personal experience it sticks like the proverbial to a blanket !!

squirt in it the gaps .. clamp it down tight ... remove excess, leave to cure ...  I promise you it won't move .... just hope you never want to take it off !!!

Hair dryer and cheese wire is your best option  :)

Thanks for your suggestions!!! I'll get some body adhesive and see if I've got time after i refit my ABS ECU! Why can't things just work and not go wrong!

This is the stuff that I used to fit the tailgate spoiler on my latest 2.5TD Estate.

Listen to the advice about masking tape lol as I learnt the hard way.  Nothing serious just spent 10 mins after cleaning off excess  :y

Ain't hindsight a bitch lol
