slight missfire on start-up
« on: 10 July 2010, 17:17:27 »

Only had the car a month, but I'd been aware of a slight missfire for a second or two when first starting the car in the morning plus erratic idling for a few seconds before settling. Worse on wet mornings. I assume it's the infamous scuttle leak. Anyway long story short, took off the dis pack - all nice and dry in the plug wells etc., but obvious signs of rust around the boot on pot 2, so there has definitely been water getting in. Cleaned everything up and put it back together and all seems well now, so I must seal up the windscreen scuttle.
It probably doesn't help that the ecotec cover is missing on the coil pack, but it's also missing one of the torx bolts that hold the coil pack down. I assume that the combination of all of these things contribute.
The question is does anyone know the size of the missing bolt or the associated part number - better still, anybody got a bolt and an ecotec cover to sell.

A cut down old cam cap bolt can be used....plenty of those about just pm somebody breaking an Omega.

As for the scuttle issue, I suspect if the cam cover was sealed in a slightly different way it might help to.
