HI guys i have been looking to raise the power output of my omega and have read that a super charger would be able to give a reasonable gain for not much work as opposed to a turbo conversion, and my friend who works with vx's all the time said there is a GM engine out there with the supercharger fitted as standard, so i took a dig on google and see the charger is mounted where the plenum chamber sits so it feeds directly into the cylinders and wouldnt require loosing my ac and allow belts to be fitted without much problem, so my question is does anyone know of this engine what its derivitive is and would it work and if so what power gains might be seen, hope you can help thanks Kack

not being silly, but having been to County Tyrone, why do you want a supercharger?   LOL!

Humour aside, its a really hard job that although gives a reasonable increase in performance, makes the engine quite "peaky" and causes a few problems with the fuel injection. If you are going to SC the X30XE lump, most people would not advise it. However, a fantastic increase can be had, leaving the economy (!) of the V6 alone for normal driving, and with the push of a button, a modest cost, and a little amount of work, NOS has to be a better option?
Have "gassed" a couple of V6's, and can only say that a properly done install is fantastic, giving supercar type performance for a short metered/timed period, and can be transferred to another motor at a later date if required easily.

WIZARDS OF NOS (google it) are a fantastic help, and have extensive experience of VX motors.

A good purged system should only set you back £500-ish, but a supercharger, or different engine with a supercharger............£2k perhaps by the time it is properly sorted???

yes, that's a derivative of the "old" GM 90degree 3.8 V6 from the states.

it's basically a really horrible iron lump, designed to be build using the small-block Chevy transfer line. Think a couple of generations behind any Omega lump.

The supercharged version is a Holden engine amongst others.

You could source and fit one from a Holden VT, although for the hassle involved, you be better advised going for a SBC V8, which would cost about the same.

not sure if that engine has an intercooler of any type.

Well i know of no Vauxhall/Opel engine fitted with a blower as standard in Europe.

There may be someting from the US but that would be mostly for V8's

The blower i think your friend is talking about is a screw type that fits inbetween the V of the engine. To fit something like this the first thing you will need to do is cut a large hole in the bonnet for cleance.

You'll then need drive pully made to fit the crank and then the engine will need to be rebuilt to lower the compression ratio if you want to get any sort of power gain from the engine.

Very much dout its worth doing but its your car and your rules so good luck with it  if you decide to do it

Good thought, but complete steering would have to be changed to rack type, and suspension too, as dimensions completely different. Brakes MIGHT be sufficient, however weight does make an issue too.
IMHO forget the SBC V8, as there has to be a complete gearbox and rear axle swap done too, the current gearbox will self-destruct, and the ratio of the diff will give it approx 120 mph, but staggering acceleration, wrecking the diff in a very short time later!! Using the appropriate gearbox will mean "adjusting" the transmission tunnel too, and therefore losing the miggy's nice interior to some extent. ( have a buddy who really plays around with these things, and after thousands spent, has learnt the hard way) Went NOS eventually, never went back.

Having said all this, if money or effort/time is not an issue, would love to see the result, Kack.

Old being the operative word. Drove one of those across Canada. The words "wet pudding the rice skin pull off couldn't" could be rearranged to describe that engine. A blower would probably bring it up to the standard of a 3.0 Omega.

Never seen one in the flesh though.

I also wonder why you'd need that much power on NI's roads, although if you go fast enough perhaps you can ride over the pot holes.

Indeed. Toured NI in the Westfield last spring and came back with a collection of bits that had fallen off including, nearly, the spare wheel. 

A lovely part of the world despite the roads, though.
