Car very hot

Hello, well I know we are in the middle of summer but my car seems to be very hot recently. Changed (most of) the coolant recently, just couldn't get it all out. At its correct level, oil correct etc, town and country driving, not standing, not loaded, not towing. Runs to high 80s on gauge, and when I get out the car I can feel a wave of heat. Exhaust manifold gasket is leaking slightly - could this be the problem? Thanks!!!

Late 80's is perfectly normal, all year around.

Wave of hot air normal.

I'd say your car is spot on.  :y

All normal  :y

90 is normal running temp, can rise to 95, but fans will come in and bring it down again. As long as it does not go past 100 all is well  :y

Engine temp is spot on and thanks to being rear wheel drive, a lot of heat passes down the transmission tunnel and hence you get to feel a wave of heat when you get out.

Agreed....perfectly normal behaviour with my 3.0 Elite also...

The gust of hot air is the engine saying "thank god I can have a rest at last....gee its hot today".

You try pushing nearly 2 ton of metal around all day...suspect you'd get rather warm also.

exhaust manifold leak will cause more consumption 
and you will loose low down torque depending on the leak.. and can cause engine knock from time to time..

Not so much on the V6's cem (unless very bad), the 4 pots are much worse as the manifolds crack.

The leak seals on the V6's as they warm up before they go into closed loop control on the 02's...unless is VERY bad  :y

That could also be the fans running on after you've turned the engine off. If the engine is hot enough, the fans & the electric water pump on the rad will run on a short while to distribute the coolant in the block to prevent localised hot spots.  ;)

It doesn't seem to disappear when it's warmed up, do you think the manifold could be cracked? :-/ I hope not :-/ It does seem a little less torquey low down though and not as punchy top end.

not seen a cracked one myself but mechanics say on the long term it can.. mine did leak from both sides..
changed the passenger side (driver side in UK) but driver side (passenger side in UK) is fiddly.. so experimenting the consequences one by one ;D

but as Marks DTM said after warm up it stops the leak..

Well if mine doesn't dissappear when warm what do you think it could be? A bad leak? Think I'll change it anyway and go from there, luckily it sounds like the drivers side, so not too bad (I hear!)

nope.. only the coolant pipe (going to the back of engine) needs some attention as it can leak after fitting.. and takes some hours .. :-/

ps : use the original multilayer metal sheet gasket from vx.. others go within months (tested ;D)
