From what I have read in my time on here you tend to read it's false economy to go cheap. as you have to replace later on.

That would be a NO, go to vauxhall or better still get some with a trade card if you don't have one to go and spend the 50-60 english pounds and the job will be right.

Buy the ebay special and you may as well buy a few of them for WHEN they fail :y

Siemens probably the original sensor manufacturer anyway, so I'd trust it.

probably only one or two makes that I would trust, tho.

Siemens and bosch are the two main manufacturers of these sensors (indeed many of the electrical sensors on modern day cars) however £20 seems to be very cheap. Does it say that its a new part or a second hand one?

IME ive found that genuine from a dealer parts are worth the extra pennies.

Just my opinion :y

On double checking the Siemens  sensor wasn't the correct one for  my car .... glad I checked !! yep really seems that 'genuine' is the recommendation.   Just that since I am not at all positive that replacing  the sensor  will cure the fault  it is a lot to pay out ...  if it does it will be money well spent . BTW this is the on going issue of auto box going into limp mode  still !!

I also posted before this one but I cant locate it ..http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1273866848/0#0 .
The How to replace cam sensor in the help section was posted by Vic who had same fault and it sorted the problem for him . Auto box selector  switch  was stripped and cleaned up as recommended but no luck .. the fault persists. fluid level also checked ..  faults showing are  P0727  P1781    P1650  P0340  P1700  P0700  P0568  P0335 ... So the cam sensor does show up !!

P0727 No Idea
P1781 No Idea
P1650 Service Light Voltage High
p0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit No Signal
P1700 No Idea
P0700 EOBD Error stored by Transmission Control (TC) Modu
p0568 Cruise Control Set Signal Circuit High Input
p0335 Crankshaft Sensor Open Circuit

Not unusual when you have a failed cam sensor for it to throw up all sorts of daft codes.

When mine went it was exactly the same and i too thought worse and was expecting to put a new box in. Changed the cam sensor and as if by magic up and running again and the other fault codes just disappered. Well the did after a kind member from bolton erased them ;D ;D

P0727---Engine Speed Circuit No Signal
P1781---Engine Torque Signal Circuit
P1700---Transmission Control Module (TCM) Requested MIL Illumination
As stated, codes are more than likely a result of intermittent cam sensor

Edit; Are any or all of these codes "stored" or "present". :question

Can you lay your hands on a code reader. I`d wager some of them are "old stored"
