Car won't start, turns over vigourously but will not fire.

Paperclip test reveals code 19.

Can anyone just confirm this is my crank sensor again? (This happened a couple of years ago but the problem went away the next day and hasn't bothered me again until now.)

Yup, that will be the crank sensor

As it's the last year the 2.5 was fitted yes.

The car was parked on my drive all day and then wouldn't start from cold in the evening after some heavy rain.

This morning I tried it again and it fired up first time. Just like it did two years ago. Luckily each time the car was on the drive when it played up.

I've already ordered a new sensor anyway.

I understood that the crank sensor problem was caused by bad routing of the cable, leaving it too close to heat sources, but each time mine has failed the car has been standing for some hours and was cold. Each time, after a few hours it recovers and works fine. This suggests something, over time, is clearing the fault perhaps?

Has anyone got any additional information about this failure?

I would class it as a Martini fault, will leave you in the sh*t at anytime,anyplace and anywhere.

Mine went in rush hour and wouldn't restart for 2+1/2 hrs then first turn of the key by the RAC it bloody started.

I wouldn't use it till it's replaced for the above reason.

Yes....but its the heat that cuases the cable to degrade....its the degraded cable thats the issue

Just got my new crank sensor, I see it has some heat shielding on the cable now.

Glad, I got my Autobahnstormers card earlier this week too. What with the sensor and buying new front discs/pads/wear sensors and some other service parts I saved over £70!

Is there anypoint to giving the cable any extra protection from heat sources? If so what should i use? With the engine being in the astra the crank sensor is close to the rad, nothing majour but my engine eats crank sensors for fun anything is worth a try!
