Auto gear selector query.
« on: 23 July 2010, 11:49:53 »

Hi all.

I need to get the ashtray assembly out. To make it easiest I want to pull the gear lever right back out of the way.

If I turn the ignition off with the lever in the rear-most position, will I then be able to get it back to "N" to start the car again?! It won't lock there, will it?

Daft question maybe, but I don't want to get stuck!

Cheers,
Gaz

Ign off, in P.

Lift up leather gaitor around gearstick (pull it upwards at end nearest ashtray). On left og gearstick, near were it meets tunnel, is a yellow level. Press that, and move gearstick.

Oh, and ensure the handbrake is on and working, or chock the wheels!

What if I switch off with the gear lever in "1"?

Don't switch it off in gear!!! Switch it off in N. The gear lever only locks in park so you're safe moving between the rest when not running.
