Track rod ends, steering idlers etc....
« on: 30 July 2010, 18:12:43 »

Had a wobble on hard braking for a while now, gradually getting worse so as I'm driving up to Ecosseland early hours of sunday morning I thought I'd better have a look! Up on stands grabs the drivers side wheel and at least 3mm side to side movement. Wheel off and both ends of the TRE had play but noticed the the steering link bar was moving slightly as well. So off with the passenger side! Outer end of the TRE was moving slightly but the steering idler!!!!! I think it has beaten TB's in the guide ;D ;D ;D At least 15mm movement in the link bar end! So an hour and a bit later 2 new TRE's and steering idler. A quick check on the tracking mirrors and I was 1/2 a degree out passenger side. It's like a completely different car! Now I need a free set of new tyres ;D

Thought you were on holiday ;D   Time to put the tools away, put your feet up and have a wee dram.

PS keep an eye out for any rusty cheap mini facelift elite saloons while you are cruising the glens. :y

I'm after a set to fit my CDX rims, at the moment I have a set of Sunny SN3800's on there. 225/55R16's.

Varche, I don't go till Sunday ;)

Try your local motor factors. Trade prices aren't bad, TRE's were just under £20 each and the idler was about £50.

Lee,

Know you're probably looking for good condition used or very cheep brand new one's.  But have you heard of these - maybe have something in your budget ??.
