Upgrade time, maybe.....
« on: 23 July 2010, 23:55:14 »

Ok, thinking uf upgrading mine, mainly because i'm bored....

Anyone tell me tax disc cost on a post march 01 3.0, or 3.2 saloon? I know it's emmissions based, and my 3.0 is still £185 due to being 2 months older (why I bought it!)

Also wondering about MPG on the 3.2, vs the 3.0?

Or maybe the rough performance of a 2.5TD?

Elite spec & auto btw, I know the aircon & other weight will affect the above, but may consider MV6 if the trim level is right

A lot of questions I know, but it'll be my 4th one, for keeping this time...  :D

Your current tax is now 195 (or is it 205), same as my 1998 3.0 ;)

3.2 will be 245 (bought one a couple of weeks back).

My TD was a prefacelift, so was same as my 3.0l.

3.0 v 3.2 - similar mpg and performance, nothing between them. Reliability wise, both have their common issues. DBW v6 pop their coil packs at around 100k, non dbw v6 kills the dis/leads (that said, my 166k MV6 is on original dis and leads).  3.2 suffers precat issues, 3.0 have icv and egr to stick...

TD mpg unchipped and with autobox is poor - I averaged high 20s.  Chipping dragged this up to low/mid 30s with the chip I used. Obviousy more on a run (chipping a TD also fools MID, so you have to test MPG the old fashioned way).  If I had another TD, it would have to be a manual, and chipped.  Personally, I prefer the 2.5TD to the 2.2DTi, smoother, better power delivery (when chipped, poor unchipped), less highly strung.  When the TD goes bang, though, it tends to do so in style...

Apologies, £195 it is, but 245 isn't too sad, not when there's £400s about

May avoid the deisel then, seems to be a waste of 4p a litre, if I get a new one, I may go LPG..... hear yr the man for this?  ;)

My last 2 migs needed CP's at about that (stupid place to hide them), but my current had been done. Previous owner had pulled the leads off the pack & left it there, fixed the new one in a much more sensible place, said it took him 20 mins!!

DBW, ICV & EGR?

Sorry!  :-[

Exhaust Gas Regulator (I think) :y

Exhaust gas recirculation valve. It puts exhaust fumes back into the beginning of the combustion cycle to lower emissions...

I'll bare them in mind, thank you  :y

One more..... what's the standard trim level of an MV6 over/under an elite?

Elite seats have memory settings and are heated front and rear. You also got auto dipping mirror on elite and if it is the saloon a rear blind was fitted on all but the very first prefacelifts iirc. The audio in the elite is usually a bose system as well. There are a few other options like telematics and sat nav as well on the elite. There is bound to be something that I have forgotten but I hope this list helps.

It does, thank you.

So it would seem that the MV6 is more about exterior looks than interior comfort/gadgets- fair comment?

Shame, would like the exterior of an MV6, but with the elite inside, sounds like a challenge for someone  ;)

All the exterior parts are transferable to make an elite look like an mv6 on the outside (or the other way round if you wish). It's just finding suitable donor parts that takes a bit of time.

The inside of an elite to an MV6? that sounds brave! think I'll pass on that one!
