Have just removed engine from my v6. Managed to seperate the box from the engine, just wondering how the torque convertor comes of? 
Looks like the starter is in the way but that doesn't want to come off either!! 
Must have missed something really simple!!  Please help

The torque converter should always be separated from the driveplate (flywheel) before engine and gearbox are separated so that the torque converter stays with the gearbox.

It is attached to the driveplate by a series of bolts (6 of them, IIRC) which can be accessed by a grommeted hole which allows access to the front of the driveplate. You have to rotate the engine crankshaft to line up each bolt in turn with the hole to remove them. Removing the starter may give you better access but shouldn't be necessary.

If the torque converter has been removed with the engine, without having been disconnected from the driveplate, you will have to hope that the bushing in the gearbox that locates the torque converter nose has not been damaged and that the torque converter has not been bent as the engine was withdrawn from the gearbox.

However, the same procedure applies for removing the TC from the engine.

Thanks kevin, so are these bolts the one you can see on the back of the flyheel?  Or the ones in the centre look to be 6 of them star drive fit?

As the engine sits in the car they go into the front (engine) side of the flywheel, through the driveplate and screw into a thread machined into the torque converter, so the heads are facing forwards. They are spaced out quite a bit from the centre (probably only 20mm or so in from the edge of the torque converter).

The ones in the centre of the driveplate are probably the ones holding the driveplate onto the end of the crankshaft. These are into the back of the driveplate though.

IIRC, the hole to access the torque converter bolts on the V6 is covered by a grommet at the bottom of the bellhousing just behind the sump. Other option is up on the driver's side by the starter but I think that's the 4 pot I'm thinking of.

I wonder if there's a picture somewhere .. It's hard work trying to put it into words.
