Boot First Aid and Spare Wheel Covers

My facelift saloon has got seriously sagging carpets for both the first aid cover on the offside (saggiest at base following line of boot floor and therefore not locking at top with the two twist locks) and the spare wheel cover on the nearside within the boot. Is this a common problem (with age perhaps) or would replacements be ok (Firmer and able to stay up and closed) as everytime i open the boot i find both covers littered around the boot with the first aid kit too. Any help might be useful?????

Such a missed oppurtunity.
Look forward to the Cadillac ATS & ATS-V. Maybe a re-badged one will replace the Miggy as a RWD runner?

Yes, I have the same with the 'little cupboad with the two catches.  The spare wheel cover is little better with one of the two 'poppers' broken! :( :(

Suppose you could always try making em a bit more rigid by glueing some wood on the back or summat,well at least on the carpet. :)

I have the same problem on my facelift, but my old prefacelift didnt suffer from it so perhaps they used cheaper/inferior materials to do the job on the facelift ? :-/

The ones on my 1999 prefacelift are fine, I even have a full first aid kit...

The carpet is (appears to be) good fabric, but sadly GM failed to spot a problem in that they neglected to put metal/plastic/wood frames on the reverse to strengthen the carpets.

I have considered fabricating some sort of stiffener out of the above potential materials but keep in mind that without some quite hard work it will only work on the first aid (also complete BTW) cupboard.

Any ideas on how to stiffen the spare wheel cover at home????????

Fiberglass matting?  Would probably only work if the cover is in good shape, so a preventative measure rather than a fix.  :-/

Another thing that springs to mind is spray starch,which is used to stiffen things up(no sarchy comments) ;D

All my Omegas have never had a problem, with the excpetion of Goldie, the early facelift. Wonder if its an early facelift thing?
