wat a day!
« on: 08 August 2010, 21:09:19 »

hello pepolei bought a 98 model 2.0gls estate today off the net whilst driving back home stopped at the services and on locking the door pulled the key in half, never thought anymore of it just pushed it together again,on returning to the car it refused to start, anyway recovery guy turned up and after 20mins came to the conclusion the fuel pump had gone, the car wanted to start after he sprayed easy start on it so i take it theres a spark there,my problem is should my key have the little chip in it because it hasnt and if i have lost it would this cut the fuel supply?no warning lights showing on dash and also no noise from fuel pump on turning the key!my new car is now parked 20miles from home and dont want to waste money on a fuel pump if its the imobiliser causing the problem.thanks in advance guys

I would guess you have lost the little chip in the key  :-/

If you have lost the chip it will not start, no chip to send a signal to the immobiliser to allow it to start,if i were you i would go back to the car and get on your hands an knees to find the chip :(

I take it you've only got the one key.  :-/ You're car/key needs another chip coding to it, for which you need the immobilser code from the original Car Pass and a Tech II to do it.

There is nothing wrong with your fuel pump mate, as said previously, ideally you need to find that chip! Failing that you must obtain a new unprogrammed chip and the immobiliser code from the car pass and have the new chip programmed to your car. Chips can be obtained from ebay, the car pass only from a VX Dealer for around £20+ and you can use a cheap chinese clone code reader which i'm not allowed to discuss here, to successfully programme the chip (assuming you can't get access to anyone with a Tech 2 machine) HTH  :y

is there a working bulb in there, check it lights on start up, it's not unknown for the bulb to be removed to help disguise other issues.  :-?

If the car started ok before the key seperated and now it doesnt, then its the chip that has fallen out, nothing to do with the pump, if the car is in the same place where the key 'opened' i would be there now trying to find the chip,if the chip is lying on the ground next to the car then there isnt really a fault with the car is there?

It is too much of a coincidence that it now doesnt start after the key 'opened' it must still be lying on the ground, if you know where they key opened as you said then go back search for the chip.. will save you money getting a new one plus programing it, 3 days later etc

The easy option is to go find your own chip  :y

I have a spare (used) chip you can have FOC. I got it when I lost a chip from my crappy Astra ..... but found the original. I know that the bloke from Polar Air conditioning has a real TechII, no idea how much he might charge though.

cheers very kind of you,to be honest i really want the car at home asap dont like the thought of it being sat there for a long period,is there any whileuwait places who sell and program the chips, anyway im going to get on the phone nice and early try and source one locally so i can pick it up and hopefully programed all in the same day.dont fancy driving from manchester to huddersfeild to crawl about on a car park its a losing battle i think.had to move the car off the carpark to the train station as its illegal to leave on a services carpark apparently!
