Alarm Keeps Going Off on 3.0 v6 2000 X reg
« on: 13 August 2010, 06:50:24 »

Hi,
I had my Irmscher body kit put on a few days ago (Front and Back bumpers)
Since then every night I wake up to the sound of my omegas alarm.
Sometimes it can go off after 10 minutes of locking the car, sometimes it goes off after 10 hours.

What are your opinions and how can I run a few tests to determine what it is?

I've read that it may be the bonnet switch as this sometimes gets knocked about a bit, especially when they are lent on.
So it may be a case that i need to bend this back into place (this is unlikely though). The second suggestion is to completely disconnect the bonnet switch. Is this OK to do so? What would I do with the trailing wires? - don't want then to get condensation etc. in them and short circuit.

Others say that it may be the Power Sounder.
However the battery is not flat and not been changed.
I've read that it is advisable to disconnect the power sounder altogether as these are fire hazzards.

I can sort of remember that if you disconnect the neutral wire to the battery and tap it on and off on to the neutral terminal of the battery several times, the lights flash which resets all the electrics on the car - is this true, is this what happens and is this worth a try? Or is there another way of doing it?

Someone has told me that in the mean time to lock the car without activating the alarm, I need to lock the passenger side first, then the rear passenger then the drivers (by getting out and poking my hand through the back door) then finally the drivers rear passenger. Is this true?

I need some sleep at night guys, any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advanced.

No. Access to diagnose the alarm requires a Tech 2.

Yes, this will work.

If I were you I would try disconnecting the power sounder. If that doesn't work, the bonnet switch would be the next suspect IMHO.

Just to add - the person at the garage said that the battery went completely flat (probably because he left something on like the lights or radio on all night). So he had to charge the battery. Ever since then the alarm has been going off...

Sounds like the power sounder, is quite likely, then, as it will have discharged the internal batteries, unless he's bent the bracket that holds the bonnet switch while working on it perhaps? Either way, those are the prime suspects.

Is there anyway I can recharge the power sounder?
If I charge the main car battery all night will this resolve it?
