crank sensor?
« on: 13 August 2010, 08:41:38 »

Had to have the AA out this morning apparently the crank sensor has gone faulty but what is confusing me is that i have found a guide on here which says the3 pin connector is at the rear of the engine but the AA man was testing a two pin connector at the front of the engine i know it has two wires because i managed to break one of them trying to seperate  it   one end of wich runs down the side of the engine and the other goes into the loom under the cover hiding the belts so the question is what is this 2 pin connector at the front of the engine that i have managed to break and does it have anything to do with the crank sensor?

Hi
The plug at the front has nothing to do with the crank sensor.  Sorry cannot identify what it is though, a picture would help.
Did the AA do a diagnostic test?  Sounds like he was just guessing?

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

I'd guess you've broken the cam sensor. The crank sensor lives just above your oil filter right at the very back of the engine & the connector is on top of the engine obviously at the back.

Having quizzed the wife it appears th AA man did not have the correct software to make a diagnosis so he guessed it was the crank sensor having said that I don't know if he was mistaking the cam sensor for the crank sensor would the cam sensor stop the car starting ( yes i know i have broken it) is there an oof member in the Manchester area who can diagnose the problem for me?
