LPG running problem
« on: 11 August 2010, 15:44:23 »

I have an Omega that will run on petrol fine. When you switch to LPG it missfire straight away.
Using the software via a laptop i eventually found that if i turned off number 6 injector whilst on gas the missfire would stop and all ran as normail.
It ran for a few minutes like this but then logged a fault at number 6 injector and now wont let it run on Gas :(

This kit was from Tylo.......anyone have a contact number for him please????

Question is whats at fault??? Im guessing that cos i can switch the injector on and off that the elecs are fine?
Do these red injectors fail often??
Can they be changed singularly?

how old are the plugs? Gas needs a stronger spark to ignite gas, so i'd start by putting some fresh GM Twin plugs in  :y

Just changed the plugs twice lol
Also had a new coil pack.
Leads look fine and are not that old to be honest.

Hello there.. Long time no see. :y

If the LPG ECU is reporting a fault with the injector it's probably an electrical issue - i.e. open circuit injector coil or a wiring fault between injector and ECU.

Can you unplug the injector and measure the resistance between the two pins in the socket on the injector body?

It would be good to know the exact fault that was logged but I'm guessing it's open or short circuit or something.

The red injectors should be about 3 ohms resistance between the 2 pins. If not, the coil has had it.

If the resistance reads OK the wiring back to the LPG ECU needs to be checked. There's a wiring diagram Here :http://www.ac.com.pl/public/pubonline/cms/files/Programy-i-instrukcje-obslugi/en/ENG-STAG-300_PLUSSTAG-300_PREMIUM_leads_description.pdf It's for the later 300 Plus ECU but I believe it'll be the same.

First step is to note the fault code and measure the injector coil as it's more likely to be that IMHO.

Also.. Check that the LPG ECU is still configured for the correct type of injectors - "Valtek rail type 3 OHM" or words to that effect IIRC.

Cheers,

Kevin

How do i retrieve the fault code?
It just said injector 6 fault all in red lol, and would not let me reset >:(
Will have to check the reistance tomm at lunch time.

Can they be changed individually??

I think one of the tabs on the LPG software shows stored fault codes. Can't remember what it's called without having it in front of me.

The coils can be separated from the injectors. I think there's just a circlip on top of them. Whether they are available as spares I don't know.

Teilo is normally pretty good at honouring the warranties (2 years IIRC) is it still under warranty?

Right. Tested all that bank and all reading 4 omhs, so i guess it tests ok.

I have a code 31 stored on the car(done via paperclip).

The car runs on gas fine with that injector selected off, via the laptop.
How is this possible?
Is it running on 5? or 5 on gas and 1 on petrol???

I think its out of warrenty now sadly. Will double check tho ;)

Sounds to me like it's either wiring (which seems unlikely as you can still switch that injector on and off) or a blockage/leak in the pipe/nozzle ;)

When switched off it reverts to petrol for that injector (I think!)

I would think it is out of warranty... I fitted mine after you and that was 2 years ago :o :o

It does run as though it has gone onto petrol for that inj.
If you turn off 2 inj then it will switch itself off of gas and onto petrol but wont do it with the 1 :-?

Cant see it being electrical to be honest, like i say it can switch on and off and the ECU can talk to it too, cos if you unplug it the comp goes mad and you get red error message and bonging from the gas speaker ;)

Has the filter ever been changed?  Could be as simple as that ;)

If you are talking about switching individual injectors off in the LPG software by clicking on the little injector icons then yes, any cylinders where you disable the LPG injector will switch to petrol. You should be able to switch any number over and it will run on a combination of LPG and petrol.

Anyway, if you get a misfire which disappears when switching no.6 back to petrol it points to that injector.

If it measures 4 ohms and it only complains when you unplug it, I agree the electrical side sounds fine.

That leaves a blockage in the injector valve itself, IMHO. I believe they can be dismantled and cleaned / refurbished but I've never tried it.

Or a leaking pipe as I said above ;)

If the filter is the original one I'd recommend changing it as poor flow through the filter will only add to the issue... I have a spare one here  :y

Yes, although I'd have thought the air leak would make it run rough as a bear's @rse on petrol too, but worth a check. :y

That reminds me. I think I owe you some money for the filter you got me?
