Check all the earths too, it's a common fault on V6's ;)

Doest the battery negative lead get hot?

Yep... Not sure it's your problem though as it normally just makes the light glow dimly (like mine is ::))

strange one.

usually the light is on, or off.

generally the dash warning light is "earthed" thru the alternator and does the job of "exciting" the alternator.

once running back feed from the alt knocks the light off.

to have off, on. i would say this wire is rubbed thro and earthing occasionally with engine movement.

pardon me but what it indicates if it does? My negative terminal is actually melted to the "battery coat" :-/

Dont know if the Omega and Carlton have the same setup.

On my Carlton there was a sinsile small wire off the back of the alternator (as well as the thicker wires) this had a spade connector on it and the wire started to braek near the spade connector.  Maybe worth checking.

finally i found the problem with the battery light staying on then off then on again . it turned out to be the warning light battery wire . has rub or bared through against the body or something . which in turn cuased to blow the aleternator regulator and diodes aswell . so just got mine alternator recondition a second time lol the spark put a bypass wire in so the alternator would get swicth on . all in its cost £125 later yayyy lol . oh the spark used a live ignition feed from a plug underneath my water expansion tank .
