V6 oil leaks
« on: 19 August 2010, 17:16:05 »

Just foumd this on TIS which might be of some use

"recent investigations have also highlighted that the oil pressure regulation plunger can become stuck, causing too high oil pressure and resulting in oil leaks from gaskest and/or seals.

Before replacing the affected gsaket(s), check the operation of the oil pressure to ensure that it does not exceed 6 bar through all engine speeds

If oil pressure exceeds 6 bar, then it will be necessary to replace the oil pump ahd gaskets."

Now this could explain some of the case where the breather has been cleaned, new OE gaskets fitted but its still leaking.

Anyway just an FYI

cheers

High oil pressure will not cause crankcase pressure (vented through the breather system) seals such as  cam cover gaskets to leak

Is this related to this picture kindly posted by tapper888 during my oil pressure crisis?

Is a valve upgrade/repair kit available, as suggested in the small print (lower left) of this image? Though I think this is only applicable to the 2.0 pumps.
