Dreadful on midday starting - mystifying garages!!
« on: 20 August 2010, 13:42:26 »

Hi folks,
Bit if a noob on the forum, so any guidance appreciated.
Have a 2002 Omega 2.2CD, which I have just replaced the HG on (4 days ago).
Transpires this is the 2nd HG to be put on the car - didn't know this when I bought it. However, the situation is an odd one...
On an overnight cold start, the engine springs to life without fail. However, on Middday, or afternoon starts, the symptoms are IDENTICAL to the way it was before the HG blew in the first place.
I've had it in with two very good garages, each of who say this is not an HG issue. No cooland pressure, and very clean oil etc.
The problem is a big one and no garage, or amount of money seems to be able to help.  :-/
There's no smoke, no steam, no oil contamination, and all levels are perfect but afternoon starting is nigh on an impossibility. Cutting out often, and requiring a LOT of patience.
Can anybody offer any suggestions?
I've had it starting with and without MAF sensor - no difference. Not sure what else I can check ??

Hi, I'm in Largoward. I'd be delighted to let you have a look. It's been the cause of some consternation...

If it is the cam sensor (which it sounds like) make sure you only fit a genuine Vx cam sensor from a dealer, do not fit an aftermarket one, even if they tell you it's a genuine.

Do you get the car and spanner showing on the dash at anytime ...unfortunately i don't think your car can be paper clipped and will need a code reader on it. I think I'm free on Monday and Tuesday if you can make it up to Cupar . :y
