yes, driven very gently, and in the right condtions, I will agree, the 2.2 CAN be more economical.

In my experience, the same ordinary, reasonably heavy footed driving style in a 3.0 auto, as a 2.2 auto return very similar running costs.  A 3.0 manual beat them both!

That's why mine is manual  ;)
I forgot to mention it, cause I really don't know anything about auto mig consumption

Thanks, I definitely think I'm looking for a 2.2DTi manual with good history now but not concerned too much with mileage (within reason).

I've got another car project on the go that will be my hobby car, so speed on this isn't a priority. I'm off to a 13 mile toll road in a friend's car soon so I can have some RWD fun in that instead.
