Hi,
Which Brake Pads shall I get?
The standard vauxhall ones ive got at the moment squeal and screech loudly.
Some say to get some EBC brake pads. However on their site they have 4 kinds, Green Stuff, Red Stuff, Yellow Stuff and Ultimax.

I Never go track days or race my Omega 3.0 v6. I just need some long lasting brake pads, that will stop me in good distance and will not squeal.

Any suggestions?

When i brake - usually at low speed, they squeal quite loudly.
Ive asked my local garage and he said that it is a common issue with vauxhall brake pads.
He suggested that I change them for more expensive ones - but if i do, will the brake pad sensors still work?

A good spread on the non friction surface of copper grease should stop the squeal,never had brake squeal using it

Dont see a problem with dealer pads,also think they are better for less brake dust on the wheel

Trade card brake pads do seem to be squel a lot (well mine do at low speeds) however genuine orginal vauxhall pads made by JURID are of much better materials and as so its reflected in the price.

you know, i use Vauxhall AM pads in all my cars, Omega, Nova, Manta, Cavailer and have never had a set that have made any noise, must just be lucky i guess

I use EBC green on front and red on the back

OE pads, as vx call them. No squeal, little dust, far better feel, but £70 on trade club for a front axle set, bit steep. But worth it IMO. Pays ya money..... :-/

What are they Andy? Only ever heard of trade club pads on here, anything else is almost blasphemy.

I recently fitted a front set of EBC Ultimax, i bought them coz on the site they sounded good, meant to be less brake dust, quicker stopping time from 80mph over O.E Pads etc, quick bed in time and ultra quiet.

This is mostly true as i have found, when i fitted them i got huge amounts of dust and lots of squeel, admittantly i fitted them onto worn rotors but after around 1000k now there quiet and do stop the car reli well, i think if i had changed the rotors at the same time then i wudnt hav had any troubles.

£25 posted off ebay by the way brand new obviously, which is a bargain.

So which one do you guys recommend ??
I saw someone say that vauxhall ones are not good,
What other choice do I have ??

I too always use Coppaslip grease on the backs of all pads I have ever changed on all of my many vehicles, even if they had anti squeal shims or coatings on them and I have never, ever had any brake squeal or noise at all.
The grease applied to the backs of the pads do not interfere with the pad warnings either so it is quite safe to use.
All you need is a small tube, not the exhorbitantly priced tin from Haflords, which you can get next day off ebay. DO not be tempted to use just any grease, it must be Coppaslip or a clone of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would be more convinced, re copper slip anti squeel, if you said you had brakes that sqeeled, THEN applied copper slip which fixed the problem and it never returned.

Sounds like pads fitted simply dont squeel?

ime ad ing copper slip may quieten a squeel, but almost always toreturn as before, and in serious cases makes no odds what so ever. Ask Kai on here, rear brakes sqeeling so loud they could be heard in the next street, so much copper slip applied it was dripping off the caliper to the point we thought it must be a brake fluid leak, made not one jot of differance to the sqeel.

ime most common cause of sqeel is cheep pads with no shims on the back, you need a shim material to take out any osilation if the pads dont sit perfectly flat in the caliper, if they rock they ossilate, and do so at such a frequency as to squeel. The more they rock, the louder the squeel. Shims, preferably ferous, ime.

Yep the EBC Ultimax dont have the shim on the back like O.E ones do, but apparently you can request it? not sure how that works. When i had my squeel i applied copper grease to the back, sides and bottom - made no difference at all! they were squeeling coz they were still bedding in to the worn rotors.
