Help Req
« on: 22 August 2010, 20:13:49 »

Hi guys
2.0 XEV still misfiring. Runs well for a couple of miles and sometimes more then bang light comes on and it will not pull and tacho goes berserk. It clears itself and next start light goes off.Have changed coil/leads/crank sensor as these codes came up.Have not changed cam sensor or MAF yet.Done a meter check on MAF as per autodata info. They say terminal 1 and earth should be zero resistance, I am getting a reading of 002.Does the ECU supply the earth for the MAF.Also on terminal 2 checks the volt readings are down as per the info I have from autodata.Sometimes they will read OK but they fluctuate badly and are mostly low readings. Do not want to throw more money at it and not get results. I will probably take it to an expert and have it plugged in. Can anyone help please before I tear what hair I have left from my head. Also on a paperclip test would the crank and cam code show all the time as engine not running. Started engine but  light would not come on. HELP !!!!!!! :(

With the car not running you should only get 12 and 31 when you paper clip it. Any other codes point to the problem. So what codes are you getting?

Hi Welung

Codes I am getting in the order they came out are

0335 crank sensor which I have changed
0100 MAF which I done the checks as I said
0340 cam have not changed yet
0351 and 0352 coil which I have fitted new one and plug leads

Ah I missed the 2001 part  :-[

On 4 pots it's nearly always the cam sensor that goes, very rare to see a failed crank sensor. Does it struggle to start from cold?

No it has always started first time. I am waiting for cam sensor to arrive, hopefully tomorrow. After doing checks on MAF I was thinking it could be that but I do not want to spend anymore money unless I am sure. Strange thing happened as well, when doing volt check on MAF the dash light came on when I touched terminal 2 with probe and went off when I revved engine. Hopefully and probably the meter was drawing the power low enough for this light to come on - if you know what I mean.

Might be worth asking someone like JimBob or ElitePete who aren't far from you to check and clear the codes then check the live data to pinpoint the problem more acurately and to save you buying bits here and there :y

Live round the corner from them.

After the mess they left my wife's old cavalier in, and their total inability to use a tech2 properly, I wont ever use em again.

Roadrunners, also in saltney, are miserable, but have slightly better tech2 skills.

I could maybe clear codes, and do a live data read I can paste on here for you, but nothing else really due to some health issues.

Does it struggle to start from cold?

What about hot start?
I'm having cam sensor problems and will need it replaced soon. But the car starts every single time when it is cold.
Mine has a problem when starting hot
