tips for sticking interior mirror onto windscreen?
« on: 30 August 2010, 17:53:43 »

anyone got any tried and tested methods for applying the rear view mirror onto a windscreen? i know the windscreen needs to be super clean, but wasnt sure whether some of the loctite rear view mirror glue was advised. i dont really want to use pads cos theyll look like an eyesore from outside the car :)

possibly the 3M sticky pads, they hold quite well. Apart from that id say araldite or something similar but this will obviously be permanant lol

Loctite do make a glue for exactly this application, I used it years ago to fix my Manta's interior mirror. I'm not sure I'd trust it to hold up a mirror as big as an auto dim mirror including the motors for the memory. How about asking at Autoglass?  :-/  :-/  :y

i think aryldite will crack the windscreen under extremes of temperature, same for most 'superglues'

The surface area of the metal 'clip' that adheres to the screen is only small.  I'd be tempted to use Araldite, or similar contact adhesive.

The metal and glass will change temperature at similar rates, so shouldn't cause issues.

You need the correct glue, it will hold fine.

All parts need to be clean and the screen and bracket need to be warm.
