It won't open. Any ideas?

If your handle is there, push door as if to close it, this will take strain off side latches, then open handle and wiggle forward, hopefully it will open. If your handle isn't there, do the same, but instead of opening handle, put your finger where it used to be and you'll feel the end of a metal/plastic rod, I can't remember what it's made of. Push this rod away and down from you, hopefully it will open. When i replaced handle on mine, the inner mechanism as stiff and needed lubricating, I suspect yours will be the same. HTH PS don't put too much strain on handle as it's a weal point IM and you might break it.

Now I have the key out and can not remember vertical or horizontal for locked and can not find anything in the manual.
But it's still shut!

Still won't open.... Are the catches in the middle or at the edges? Any kind person possibly put a photo on.

Got the glovebox open and out,  the mechanism is broken. So it was off to breakers to get another. Only got the lid and as it was the wrong colour thought i'll swop the inside bits. Well they are not the same. The part came from a facelift and mine is not.  So if anyone has a  mechanism for a 97 let me know  otherwise I'm back to more breakers tomorrow. They are such sad places

checked out dealers before trtailing around breakers. Ordered the part so I conput the car back together.
