hi/

Can anyone help me out. I beleive the coil pack is not working properly it appears that the car is not firing on all cylinders. There is no management light on.

Is there any other suggestions? Also is it easy to replace?

Yes, relatively speaking. If you have a bit of mechanical how-to and are willing to have a go, great.

Unfortunately, the hardest part is getting the coil pack out AFTER you have dissassembled the top of the engine to uncover it for access!!
You WILL need a set of torx sockets, and the dexterity of a gynaecologist to get it out from under the back of the engine, and you will need to remove the scuttle panel too.....
Count on a 4hr job if you are attempting it for the first time, and use plenty of patience and paper towels to block off holes to the engine you uncover whilst stripping the plenum, egr valve, breather pipes, breather bridge, and fuel pipes off the engine before you can even get to the dratted coil pack!!

If this all seems too daunting, ask somebody like Darth Loo-knee to do it for you, very reasonable and knowledgeable bloke who is more than willing to help.

Dunno where you are, but if you are near to Bristol/Glos/Cheltenham/Worcester/Tewkesbury areas will do it for you with pleasure.

Have you gone through a "trail" to arrive at DIS pack faulty?

e.g. Is it misfiring on more than one cylinder.?

Have you checked the spark plugs aren't sitting in a well of oil (from cam cover gasket seal gone)

Have you had a look in the dark to see if any arcing from faulty plug leads.?

As far as changing the DIS pack is concerned if that is the problem, I have done mine twice on my 2.5 and on neither occasion have I had to remove the plenum. Sure access is limited even with the scuttle removed. You do most of it by touch.

Thanks for the responses. I took it to the local garage as i suspected a head gasket problem. They did a full compression test which was ok. Changed the leads and plugs and came up with the idea of the coil pack. (made sense to me), they was going to charge me £300 in labour alone so i will do the change myself. This car is my 3.0 MV6. I have changed the rocker cover gaskets on my 2.5 V6 so i should be ok doing the coil pack.

2.5/3.0 i believe is a dis pack, 2.6/3.2 coil pack,ive just stripped a 3.0 when i took off dispack it was clear why there was a misfire half the plastic was missing

Seems fair enough.

What are the symptoms. misfire when you accelerate from say 50. There all the time? Any different after the garage changed the leads (possibly not connected properly on the DIS pack).

Your profile doesn't say what year your car is but the 2.5's had two different types for my car for example. You can tell from the wiring loom connector but best is if it is off the car so you can get the part number off it. Have a trawl through the guides as I am sure onbe has part numbers and VX prices.

Misfire is all the time. The car is a 3.0 MV6 2000 W reg. I shall take off the coil/dis  pack for the codes.

No need, at that age its the later horizontal one with the oval connector

Protip - use some old socks, wrapped over the top - less likely to fall in, or if the wind gets up, blow out...

A 1/4" socket set with a 'wobbly' connector will get at the 4 bolts holding it in. Then limber up your wrists and fingers!

Thats about the only way to get to the back bolts succesfuly

I did mine with a standard socket set including varied lengths of extensions.  Piece of cake.  The ABS ECU was a trifle more difficult tbh.

To quote my good friend Steve1564, "like putting your hand in a bag of cats, when your hand is covered in fish juice" was how he described doing the ABS ECu.

Me, I've got small hands, and it was fiddly, but do-able with patience and a lot of swear words. Took me about three hours though..................and had to have a beer to recover (purely medicinal, of course)
