Dodgy ash tray
« on: 02 September 2010, 15:00:08 »

I've just brought a 2.2dti Est on a 52 plate and the only thing wrong is the ash tray won't stay shut :-[

It opens and closes fine there just doesn't seem to be anything to hold it shut!

I can't remember how my old 2.5v6 one worked - never took any notice ;D

I had a similar problem with the ash tray as it wouldn't stay closed.

In my case the pin that is used to secure the tray in the closed position had broken away so the spring clip had nothing to latch on to. After a bit of trial and error I've been able to securely glue the pin back in place and the drawer now closes properly. The first attempts failed as the epoxy resin glue I used did not set hard enough. In the end by using hard setting Araldite it all seems to be OK.

Thanks for the offer of the replacement ash tray!

At the moment all seems to be OK with the Araldite fixing of the pin, I did it some months ago.
