Is Goldie Dead??

Hi everyone.
Further to my posts regarding problems with central locking and keyfobs.
Still not managed to fix!!
My Goldie (2.2 CD (51)) has now decided to slip off her cam belt while in the o/side lane of M25!!

Is there anyone that can give me advice of parts/costs etc to put her back on the road?
Is it new engine?
Is there anyone in Norfolk that wishes to be her doctor and put her on the road to recovery?

I would be grateful for your inputs.

If its as bad as you say and the belts come off then i would think your looking at some valves and possibly piston damage as well .
I dont think its going to be good news anyway  :'( :'(

Not knowing alot it seems possible that the "bottom end" seems alright as the cog turns fully(the one on the right as you look at the engine),the left one dosnt.

Having had bad experiences with garages before,round here they know I can drive em,but fix em...........nah??
One has already said £800 ish,depends on how much damage,I could possibly get an engine for £400 but then that will need fitting,looks like I will have to get the bike out!!

If your near one of our more experienced experts on here they could possibly check it for you but it doesnt sound good ... my old Omega's belt went after 14k but i didnt even bother as its normally bad news .
You could have a go at repairing it yourself ... nothing to loose  :y

Someone better able to advise or help will be along soon ...you never know you may have escaped any damage although thats very very unlikely :-/    ... there is a meet on so some may be away  :y

If the timing belt has come off completely then it will have damaged most if not all of the valves. Easiest and cheapest option is a 2nd hand head but you will also need a head gasket set, head bolt set, water pump and timing belt kit. That's not far off £200 in parts without buying the head! Is it really worth it? Does the car mean something to you or is it 'just a car'? That's your choice to make. I'll PM you now breaking the prices down so they are clearer :y

You will also need to find out why the belt came off to prevent it happening again!

Got the PM welung,will digest wile she watches X Factor!
I am thinking second hand engine.

To answer the question "is it worth it" the motors body and interior is in very good nick,in the last 2 months though,it has had a new exhaust system (£250) a new HBV (£45) and new tyres (£300),I still have the problem of central locking not working including the boot not opening on the button and the blooming interior light stays on when it is locked!!
Doing the sums,I might as well get it ship shape again,it is going to cost me a lot more to buy another decent car,so when this is done,hopefully she will last me another five years or so.

I shall sleep on it,do any of you know anyone in Norfolk like likes to "dabble" on motors?

Not that it will help you but out of curiosity how many miles had Goldie done? How old was belt and tensioners, water pump etc  :question

Hi Dave

Done 70k,belt etc changed 20k ago (aprox 23 months).

The belt did not break,but on one part of it it has shredded the "teeth" on the belt.Lots of belt debris on the "cogs".
There was no warning,temperature etc has been constant,does not use water,but has been using a bit of oil.
Has had the few niggles as mentioned previosly,C/L etc.
Runs (or did) well,there was a little rattle I noticed aprox half hour before it went pop,sounded like a loose bolt on the exhaust type "tink",put it down to having a new exhaust fitted recently and  something was loose,was only noticeable with window open and stationary in traffic.

When it stopped there was a strong smell of oil and petrol.
About it.

Most likely one of the rollers failed (probably the 'lip in' roller). I don't mind travelling :y I haven't been to Norfolk for a while ;D I have an Aunt in Thetford so could double it up with a visit :y

Oh to add.... best to put a new belt kit and waterpump on if you do change the engine ;)
