Second hand value
« on: 16 November 2007, 17:06:10 »

Hi all, I am wondering what is a fair trade in value for my Silver MV6 3.2 estate.  It's done 160K, and it's about to get a years mot.  It's a late one, a 51 reg.  The dealers I have spoken with seem scared to value it!  I was hoping to get a couple of grand for it, but it's looking like £0 to £1000 :'(

It's not the tidiest one made, but a hell of a lot of car nevertheless!  What do you guys reckon?

Agree the big question here is plod spec or MV6 spec, and obviously work done, history cambelt change etc.

When you say its not the tidyest....what do you mean?

If its not ex-police, then quite a sought after car.

How untidy is it?

Get some photos up, inside & out, you may even get an offer!

Ah, well it's not ex plod, it is full leather with the cdchanger/tape/phone thing and alloys, it's an auto, it's got a couple of rust spots on the back door, it leaks oil a bit (takes 1 or 2 litres between services), it has 2 new tyres on the back (last week), it's had a cambelt at the last major service, it has a minor service in the spring, etc...
It also leaks a little water which it has done since sept06, but this is not a problem at this time as you get the warning to check coolant level.  My garage have not found where it's going as it's a very minor leak, and we know it's not going into the oil as they have done some gas tests??? :-?
I need to get all the facts before I stick it up for sale, and will get photos.

LOL @ Baron!  do I have an advance on £1? !!! :-X ;D

From that it doesn't sounds to bad, more like it needs some TLC than much else
Sounds like the mileage is the worst thing about it, as its Silver, replacement doors easy and cheap
With a good clean, good ad, load of photos, I reckon you could start it at £2000 on autotrader, and it would be snapped up.
Lot depends if it looks tatty or not.
Sounds like £500 tops would have those niggles fixed, and majorly serviced, just leaving the milege against it.

Thanks for that, I appreciate your replies. :y

Why sell?  Well, much as I absolutely love this car, my DJ business needs require a totally reliable form of transport, and TBH at 160000 miles, it's getting a bit tired and I have had a few problems lately.  I cannot afford to be late or breakdown on the way to someone's wedding or birthday party.  Also I need to be able to shift bigger equipment which means a bigger boot, so I'm getting a van!  Gonna miss this baby big time.. :'(
