Resurface Cylinder head
« on: 06 September 2010, 21:02:29 »

Hello
I'm changing the gasket on the cylinder head.
I have access to a mill so i thought that I would resurface the cylinder head. However, the exhaust valves are really close to the "level" where I will mill! Is this normal??
I've read in the Manual that the height of the cylinder head should be 134mm. I will check this tomorrow...
The engine?...its a MV6 -95

Should be fine to skim a few 'thou' off.

But in reality the V6 heads dont warp so only do it to clean the face up.

Yeah, I will only "polish" it. To clean it.

Do check it but I seem to recall the exhaust valves sit around 1mm below the head face

Come on Mark. The poster's make of car suggests he's on the European  mainland where ...... like you  ::) they don't do Imperial inches.
for EXD 0.01mm=0.004" (ish)  :y  :y  :y

1mm is about 40 thou, (0.04 inches)
0.1mm is about 4 thou, (0.004 inches)
0.01mm is about 0.4 thou (0.0004 inches)

You were a power of ten out back there Andy, unless I deceive myself greatly.;)

The millings done!
I toke of 0,1mm. But the exhaustvalve is REALLY close now to the head face, I guess you shouldn't resurface the cylinder head too many times...
The height is 134mm now as it should be according to the manual.
